Day 175

Students took their final chapter test today (chapter 10) using Moodle.

The notebook check will be tomorrow, and my final exam will be on Tuesday, June 6th at 9:20am.

Day 174

Students turned in their 36th and final news article at the beginning of today's class.  For the rest of class, we played Jeopardy to review for tomorrow's test.

The notebook check is due on Thursday, June 1st, and the chapter 10 test is tomorrow.

Day 173

We discussed section 10-8 notes on light technology and watch a short video of how holograms are made.  Students worked in their groups to complete worksheets 10-17 & 10-18, and we went over the answers before the end of class.

News article #36 is due on Tuesday, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 172

We discussed section 10-5 notes on different types of light.  Students watched their final www.brainpop.com video on Light and took their final quiz afterwards.  They completed worksheets 10-6 and 10-7 within seven minutes in their group before we went over the answers.  With any time that was left over, they watch brief videos on how neon lights are made.

No homework was assigned, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 171

We only had 24 minute classes today due to the afternoon field day.  During class, we discussed section 10-6 notes on mirrors.  Students were given samples of plane, concave and convex mirrors, and they learned how each reflects light to produce different images.  Students then completed worksheets 10-9 and 10-10 before the end of class.

No homework was assigned, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 170

We discussed section 10-7 notes on lenses.  I had samples of different convex and concave lenses on each of the tables for students to play with.  We watched a www.brainpop.com video on Vision Problems followed by the quiz.  We then completed worksheet 10-11 together before finally watching a "How It's Made" video on Contact Lenses.

No homework was assigned, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 169

Students turned in their 35th science news article at the beginning of class.  We discussed section 10-4 notes on the human eye.  We watched a www.brainpop.com video on Eyes and took the quiz afterwards.  Finally, we watched brief 5-minute videos on LASIK surgery and prosthetic eyes.

No homework was assigned, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 168

We discussed section 10-3 notes on light colors and watched a www.brainpop.com video on the same topic.  Afterwards, students had five minutes to complete worksheet 10-5 within their groups before I went over the answers with them.

News article #35 is due on Monday, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

We discussed section 10-2 notes on reflection and refraction.  Students watched a www.brainpop.com video on Rainbows and took the quiz afterwards.  Students completed worksheets 10-2, 10-3 and 10-4 together before we went over the answers during the last 5 minutes of class.

Students were given their final chapter packet today for chapter 10.  We discussed section 10-1 notes on the electromagnetic spectrum and completed worksheet 10-1 together.  Students watched a www.brainpop.com video on the topic before taking the quiz.

Today was launch day!  Students spent three days working in groups to create a device that would launch a ping pong ball onto a target, and today they tested their product.

Day 164

Students turned in their 34th science news article at the beginning of class.  While they had their chapter 9 notebooks checked, they put the finishing touches on their group STEM project ping-pong ball launchers.

STEM launch day will be tomorrow, and the chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 163

Students took their chapter 9 test today on the laptops.  With whatever time they had remaining, they could work on completing their chapter 9 notebooks or get a news article for Monday.

Both the notebook check and news article #34 are due on Monday, and the chapter 11 test will be on Wednesday, May 31st.

Day 162

Students had their homework (Worksheets 9-10 and 9-11) checked for 25 points at the beginning of class.  For the remainder of class time, we played Jeopardy to review for tomorrow's test.

Day 161

Today is the second and final day of the STEM ping pong ball launcher build.  Students had the entire class period to build, modify and finish their project.  We will be launching on Tuesday, May 16th.

Worksheets 9-10 and 9-11 are both due tomorrow, May 11th, and the chapter 9 test will be on Friday, May 12th.

Day 160

Delayed post from yesterday.

Mr. Girardi was in for me today as I attended an out-of-town conference.  Students worked in groups on a STEM project trying to create a ping-pong ball launcher.  They have tomorrow's class yet to complete the build.

Worksheets 9-10 and 9-11 are both due on Thursday, May 11th, and the chapter 9 test will be on Friday, May 12th.

Students turned in their 33rd science news article today.  We discussed section 9-3 notes on wave interactions and completed worksheet 9-9 together.  I also told them that they needed to complete worksheet 9-6 on their own before the notebook check.

They were assigned worksheet 9-10 and 9-11 for homework that is due on Thursday, and the chapter 9 test will be on Friday, May 12th.

Students watched a www.brainpop.com video on Waves and took the quiz afterwards.  Students then worked in their groups to complete the Slinky Lab on pages 9-7 and 9-8.

Delayed post from yesterday.

We discussed section 9-2 notes on speed, frequency and wavelength of waves.  Students were assigned pages 9-2, 9-3, 9-4 and 9-5.  We went over those answers during the last 10 minutes of class.

Students took both halves of the science PSSA exam today.  During our shortened classes, students were given a STEM challenge.  Each group was given 15 pipe cleaners and asked to create the tallest possible free-standing structure.
