Day 55

(IWB - Day 55 Electron Arrangement)

Students had today and then tomorrow yet to take the periodic table quiz.  We finished worksheet 3-16 from yesterday on ions and isotopes.  We discussed section 3-6 notes on electron arrangements.  Students were assigned worksheets 3-19 & 3-20.  We went over both pages before the end of the period.

No homework was assigned, and the Chapter 3 test will be November 19th & 20th.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Day 54

(IWB - Day 54 Ions & Isotopes)

Students had the opportunity to take the periodic table quiz.  We discussed what an isotope is and how it helped to determine the average atomic mass of an atom.  Following that discussion, we watched a www.brainpop.com video of Isotopes and took the quiz thereafter.  It only took about a minute for students to complete worksheet 3-15 on isotopes.  We then discussed how ions are created and how that effects their net charge.  We watched a www.brainpop.com video on Ions but DID NOT take that quiz.  We ended class by having students work on worksheet 3-16.  Most students had difficulty with this page, so I went over the first 2-4 samples with them.  The bell rang before most students were done, so we will complete the assignment tomorrow.

No homework was assigned, and the Chapter 3 test will be on November 19th & 20th

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Day 53

(IWB - Day 53 Element Blocks)

Students had the opportunity to take the periodic table quiz at the beginning of class.  We discussed section 3-5 notes and learned how to identify the atomic number, mass number, protons, neutrons and electrons for any element on the periodic table.  We watched a www.brainpop.com video on Atoms and took the quiz.  We ended class by completing worksheet 3-14.

No homework was assigned, and the Chapter 3 test will be November 19th & 20th.
